Portrait of a Generation and Andrépolis at The Hole

Kristy Leibowitz standing next to the gorgeous portrait Scott Ewalt did of her

To her right is her portrait of Scott

Kristy's iconic photograph of Scott and his famous t-shirt collection!!!

Each artist in the show was paired with another artist, to do a portrait of one another, which was an excellent idea resulting in a fantastic and inspiring show.

Loved this portrait Kembra did of Kenny Scharf

Yummy Yummy Yummy!!!

I felt incredibly inspired by the show and all I wanted to do was run to my studio and start painting!!! I really need to go back and have a better look at everything.

<3 <3 <3 <3 My absolute favorite!!!<3 <3 <3 <3 When I go back, I plan on bringing my largest purse, and stealing this one right off the wall.

Kathy's shows never disappoint and they're always a welcome respite from the predictable Chelseafication that runs rampant through so much of even the Lower East Side.

For the low low price of 25 cents, you too can have a ride, gentle reader!

Stepping into the André Saraiva installation, was like stepping into a Roger Brown painting, only a more prurient, 3-d version!

These reminded me of H. G. Westermann, too.

The installation had a lyrical, transformative quality that actually created this strange sense of exclusivity and forbidden fun. The surreal music blasting through the huge speakers and the "bouncer" at the entrance contributed to these sensations.

Abrons Art Center: AIRspace 2012

Carolyn Salas made this intriguing installation!! Such an unexpected use of materials, it would have never occurred to me to place cement slabs upon such delicate and fragile objects.

There is always something really beautiful and mysterious about Carolyn's work.  Despite being comprised of these kitschy and mass-produced objects and materials, Carolyn's installation manages to have a poetic fluidity that transcends its materials.

Amy Feldman

All the artists in the show were in the Abrons Residency together.

Brie Ruais

Although each of the artists had a very distinct approach, there was a pleasing balance and unity between all the works in the show.

Bushwick Open Studios: 322 Troutman St

These are fun!!! Brent Owens again

Odd fusion of two dissimilar ideologies- 50% pop art 50% crafty woodworker
Hein noticed that a number of artists right now are using what appears at first glimpse as an outsider art aesthetic, in order to create works that are actually sophisticated and self-aware.
Brent would fit into this category.

 IAMBUTIAMNOTINTHEMOOD!

Sarah Bednarek

You can't tell from the photo, but the scale of this sculpture is quite large.  This is my favorite of Sarah's sculptures! How does she do it? I'm always amazed.

This sculpture actually opens and closes back up. I was reminded of  Lilian Tone's lecture on Lygia Clark, since there's a parallel between Sarah's work and Clark's, but also because both bodies of work cause a conundrum for public institutions and curators. Since these pieces are meant to be interacted with, putting them behind a glass vitrine would result in killing an integral part of the idea, but allowing people to interact with them threatens the preservation of these sculptures. So it becomes a catch-22.

Bushwick Basel

Natalie Westbrook

I always love Natalie's comi-tragic, anthropomorphic woodland creatures!!!

Peter Caine

I wasn't familiar with Peter Caine's work before, but I seriously coveted his gooey, animatronic dinosaur egg!!! I really should have filmed it bobbing it's head up and down, rather than taking snapshots. Dinosaurs always seem to put things into perspective ;) When Baudrillard was writing about the pretension of culture, he wasn't referring to self-aware, gooey, animatronic dinos!

Love Love Love

Summer Wheat is a terrific painter

Adam Parker Smith

Looks like Adam's sexy asses got themselves some new sexy pedestals

Brent Owens
What a strange sculpture, I really dug it!!

The Visitor at Black and White Gallery

Friday night I went to this group show that Kathy and Laura were in a couple blocks from my studio

Laura had a really beautiful and eerie sound piece in the show

Kathy :)

Matt Jones

I've been a fan of Matt's for a long time, but after hearing him give a lecture at the Hole in which he talked about these paintings in relation to space, mediation, and belief, I gained a new understanding of the impetus behind this series.

There was something very nostalgic about this drawing for me, it reminded me of all the horror and sci-fi movies my father allowed me to watch behind my mother's back as a child. :D Thanks to my dad I earned so much street cred and respect from all the lil boys at the school yard, who weren't even allowed to have a glimpse at what I was allowed to watch; which was EVERYTHING in the horror/sci-fi section. My mother wouldn't even allow me to watch Gremlins! But she did let me read whatever I wanted, and was so proud of me for reading Stephen King at age 10. Christine was my first introduction to Stephen King, and the detailed descriptions of teenage hand jobs and groping  turned me into a dedicated fan till at least my sophomore year of high school!

Erin Dunn at Rooster Gallery

Erin's first solo!!!

These were the props from Erin's fantastic video

Erin has a really rich and idiosyncratic view of the world, and it's refreshing to see an artist with such a specific and individualistic vision. There was something incredibly moving and human about her video and it reminded me of Fellini in the way that it incorporated pathos with comedy and sexuality with religion, but it was much darker than Fellini with its 80s slasher aesthetic and brutality.

Paul could give Baryshnikov a run for his money any day!!!
